Default Optima Battery

I am considering buying an Optima Red Top battery for my 69 Firebird. Does anyone have any feedback either way on how well they work?

I had one in each of my cars ..... I now have Canadian Tire batteries. The Optima's do not like storage, in one season of storage(not with me) it killed them, so if you are able to keep it charged, you should be ok, but if not, keep it disconnected, and pray !! LOL ... this has been my experience, but other than the storage thing ... it was an awesome battery, I left my elec fans running, and went to start it .... click click click ... AHHH CRAP !!! turned the fans off and left it to sit for about 10 mins ... and VROOOOM away she went.

Ive had a red top in my TA for about 5 years.
I disconnect the negative in the winter time and it has never given me any trouble.
I think it may be on its way out but 5 years is about the lifespan of any battery nowadays...

Default Optima Battery

Thanks everyone for the comments. I picked up the battery and a battery tender and took the car out for a spin. Good to have it on the road again.
I'll be getting it ready for the show and shine.

I go through batteries once per year. For the past three years I've had Canadian Tire batteries and each year I return them for a full refund.
Normally, I like to start my car once per month to keep the seals from drying out etc...and each time I need to boost the battery. I boosted the Trans Am yesterday, went for a 15 minute highway drive and upon returning the car to the garage, shutting the car down and trying to restart....it was dead. Would not even crank.Perhaps a longer drive is necessary? My father-in-law has a battery tender/tester. Might try that before I return the 4th battery. Maybe the alternator is screwed?Once the car was running, the alt guage registered 13 1/2 amps.
Aghh, cars.........

Hi Chris.....I had the same problem with batteries like you have...I started to use the small 1.2 Amp trickel charges that you get from Canadian tire or Pricess Auto...The batteries are hooked up 7/24...so far the batteries are lasting..
